TTL Flash photography
(TTL = Through The Les)
Direct flash is in my opinion the bee’s knees’. Nothing humble about this so if your looking for light airy pastel photos don’t do this. If you are looking for some harsh, grit, technicolor, then give this a try.
This is technically the simplest form of flash photography.
How it works;
Photographer concentrates on the subject while letting the camera and flash shoot the calls.
Settings : Camera = Program mode | Flash = TTL mode
You pick out your ISO.
Outdoors Sunny 100-200
Outdoors Shade 400-800
The idea of this method is to concentrate on the scene and not the camera so no need to over think your ISO settings.
These settings have the camera and flash choosing all the technical settings and with good flashes, this method will get you where you need to be a large percentage of the time. Is it important to know how to work in manual? Yes it is, but when you are moving fast through different scenes and know how your camera and flash think it is ok to trust them to do the thing they do. After all you pay more for TTl capabilities, why not use them? Will this method fail you at times? Yes it will and it’s important to know how to get yourself out of a pickle.
I can only speak for the cameras I personally use. These are the flash systems I recommend.
